What is in the box: one remote control with soft rubber buttons. Batteries are not included. You need two AAA cells.
How to use it: Pop in two AAA batteries (not included). Point at the indoor unit sensor (the small black window near the Hitachi logo) and press a button. That is the whole setup.
The remote has a digital display that shows the current temperature setting and mode (cool, dry, fan, auto). The backlight is NOT present on this particular model. If your old remote had a green backlight and you use it in a dark bedroom, this version will not glow.
