Pop in two AAA batteries (not included). Point at the indoor unit sensor and press a button. That is the whole setup.
All standard functions work: temperature up and down, fan speed (low, medium, high, auto), mode selection (cool, fan, dry), swing control, timer on/off, sleep mode, and turbo. The backlight button lights up the display for about 10 seconds when you press any key in dim rooms.
One thing to check before ordering: older Hitachi window AC models (RAW series, RAS series) need a different remote. This one is coded for the inverter split range with R-S-something-H model numbers. If your indoor unit label starts with RAC or RSD, verify the exact code against the compatibility list above.
Range is about 8 to 10 meters in a clear line of sight. Battery life runs 8 to 12 months with typical daily use (5 to 10 button presses per day).
